A 15-year-old girl has died and three teenagers have been arrested after the motorbike she was travelling on was involved in a crash with two cars.
Thames Valley Police said a collision occurred between a white Toyota Yaris, a grey Toyota Hilux and a motorbike on the A355 in Buckinghamshire at around 9.20pm on Friday.
When emergency services arrived at the scene, they found the body of a 15-year-old girl who had been thrown from the motorcycle in the impact.
The rider of the motorbike, a 16-year-old boy from Beaconsfield, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
Two other teenagers, also on a motorbike, a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl, from High Wycombe, were also held on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
The force said a mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) as a police vehicle was nearby.
The police vehicle was driving on the opposite carriageway, not on blue lights, it said.
A spokesperson for Thames Valley Police said: 'At around 9.20pm yesterday, a three-vehicle collision occurred between a white Toyota Yaris and a grey Toyota Hilux and a motorbike, across both carriageways on the A355.
'The passenger on the motorbike, a 15-year-old girl, sadly died at the scene. Her next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers.
'The rider of the motorbike, a 16-year-old boy from Beaconsfield, has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving.
'Two further people who were in the vicinity of the incident, also riding a motorbike - a 16-year-old boy and a 15-year-old girl both from High Wycombe, have also been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. All three remain in police custody.
'A mandatory referral has been made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct in relation to this case, as a police vehicle was in the vicinity of the RTC, driving on the opposite carriageway, not on blue lights.
'This referral is a standard requirement to ensure independent oversight and it would be inappropriate for us to comment further until the IOPC has completed their assessment.'
The force is now appealing for witnesses following the fatal collision.
Lead investigating officer Oliver Cahill-Smith said: 'Firstly, I would like to share my sincere condolences with the family of the girl who has sadly died as a result of this collision.
'I am appealing to anyone who witnessed the incident to please get in touch.
'I would also like to ask anyone who was driving in the area prior to the collision to review their dash-cam footage as it may contain information that could assist our investigation.'
