MAN ALLEGEDLY STABBED TO DEATH AT INNER WEST SYDNEY HOME AFTER ARGUMENT ERUPTED BETWEEN MATES

  • Man died after being stabbed in the chest
  • Another man, 41, has since been arrested

A man has died after an alleged stabbing at a house in Sydney's inner-west.

Police were called to a property on Spring Street at Concord following reports of a concern for welfare about 12.10pm on Sunday.

Emergency workers discovered a man inside with a wound to his chest.

The man, in his 30s, was first treated by police before NSW Ambulance paramedics stepped in but he sadly died at the scene.

Another man, 41, was arrested at the home and transported to Burwood Police Station where he will next be interviewed about what happened.

Evidence bags were seen being taken out of the home by officers working the scene before the man was removed from the property in handcuffs.

It is understood that he will be charged later Sunday night.

A crime scene has since been established at the home and detectives are now investigating the incident.

Superintendent Christine McDonald said detectives are looking into whether or not the alleged stabbing broke out due to an argument between the parties.

'This level of violence is completely unnecessary,' Superintendent McDonald said, reports the Sydney Morning Herald.

'This is a terrible incident ... you go to someone's house on a Sunday afternoon for whatever reason, and this occurs.

'It's not something that I'm sure the victim was expecting would happen, and now multiple lives have been ruined by this incident.'

Others who lived on the street said they were shocked to find out what had happened.

'We've known these people for years and they've always been very lovely. My mum will sometimes walk the dog with them,' a neighbour told 9News.

'This is terrible to happen in a nice quiet neighbourhood,' another said.

The 41-year-old man had lived at the property with his 47-year-old partner who is also now helping officers with their inquiries.

It is understood the deceased had been visiting the couple at the time of the incident.

The three had been friends for eight years and the attack did not appear to have been premeditated, Superintendent McDonald said.

Both the victim and the 41-year-old had been known to detectives prior to this due to minor traffic offences and other matters, she added.

Anyone with information on what may have happened has been asked to contact Crimestoppers.
